4 people were discovered dead, and almost a dozen were admitted to hospitals in Kilifi county, Kenya after being rescued while waiting to meet Jesus, according to reports on Thursday.
The individuals who are members of Good News International Church led by Pastor Paul Mackenzie, were advised to fast to avoid “apocalyptic damnation,” according to authorities.
Mackenzie was apprehended after surrendering to authorities who had been searching for him. Reports suggest that ignorant believers were starving to death under the guise of meeting Jesus after being brainwashed by the pastor, according to the Malindi sub-county investigations chief.
Some of the rescued individuals refused medical treatment, with a possible mass grave located in the Shakahola Forest, where other followers may be burie.
According to local papers, Nthenge was taken into custody after two children died of hunger while in their guardians’ detention, and after being charged, he was released on a bond of Kshs 100,000 ($700).
