Habeeb Okikiola, better known as Portable, a Nigerian singer, has been arrested by the Ogun State Police Command for assaulting police officers.
The officers had attempted to arrest the singer at his bar, and video footage shows Portable cursing and attacking the officers.
The Nigerian police condemned the musician’s actions, calling his behaviour irrational and indefensible.
Portable was issued with a 72-hour ultimatum to hand himself in to the police, but he failed to comply and was arrested on Friday.
Police Public Relations Officer Abimbola Oyeyemi confirmed that the musician is being held at the State Headquarters of the police in Eleweran, Abeokuta, and will be charged once investigations are concluded.
Okikiola’s arrest is the latest in a series of high-profile musician arrests in Nigeria, where the police are cracking down on disorderly behaviour, most notably during the #EndSARS protests last October.
