The South African hip-hop scene is in mourning today following the tragic news of the death of rapper AKA and his former manager Tebello ‘Tibz’ Motsoane.

The two were gunned down in Durban on Friday night while celebrating the rapper’s birthday and performing at a club.

Tributes have been pouring in from fans on social media, with many remembering Tebello’s contribution to AKA’s music career and cultural influence in the hip-hop scene. Tebello was co-founder of the clothing brand Head Honcho and founder of Showlove Consulting, and was credited with introducing AKA to the entertainment industry.

Police have confirmed that the two were shot in a drive-by shooting, but the investigation is ongoing and no further details have been released. South Africans are still reeling from the news, and are struggling to process the loss of one of the country’s greatest rappers.

We send our deepest condolences to the families of AKA and Tebello Motsoane.
