Frustrated Nigerian Lady Reports Redeemed Christian Church of God to LASEPA over Noise Pollution

A Nigerian lady has reported a worship centre of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG) to the Lagos State Environmental Protection Agency (LASEPA) due to the high volume of noise they produce. The woman, identified as Oreoluwa, shared her experience in a tweet on Saturday, January 28th, where she expressed relief that the agency had contacted her in response to her complaint.
When contacted, Oreoluwa revealed that her frustrations had driven her to take action against the church. She noted that the church holds three services a week and the noise from the building made it difficult for her to take calls or sleep. Oreoluwa stated that she had filled out the complaint form on LASEPA’s website in order to seek a resolution.
The Nigerian expressed relief that the agency assured her that she could call again if nothing changes. She reported that the noise pollution had been reduced, but not to the barest minimum yet.
Social media users shared their own experiences with similar noise pollution from churches and mosques. One user said that their church had stopped putting their speakers outside due to a random man that had reported them to LASEPA. Another user noted that they had been living opposite a mosque with only 25-30 worshippers, but the noise was still unbearable.

It is clear that noise pollution from churches is a major issue in Nigeria, and Oreoluwa’s actions have helped to bring attention to the problem. It is hoped that LASEPA will be able to find a solution that will allow Nigerians to worship without disturbing their neighbors.
