Senator Enyinnaya Abaribe of Abia South senatorial district has issued a warning to Simon Ekpa, the self-proclaimed disciple of Nnamdi Kanu, leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, and other unidentified gunmen who have been threatening that there will be no election in the South East.
Abaribe declared that the 2023 general election will be free and fair and that the results will demonstrate who the people trust.
The Senator also urged South-East governors to come together to end the unrest in the region instead of working as individuals.
He believes that external forces are responsible for the insecurity in the South-East, with the goal of preventing people from exercising their voting rights freely and fairly.
Abaribe revealed that he had visited Kanu in the custody of the Department of State Services (DSS) and that Kanu had denied any involvement in a “sit-at-home” order in the region. He stated that “merchants of violence and destruction” had taken control and were committing crimes, and then falsely attributing them to certain groups.
