Video Shows The Moment Train Derailed In Kogi State, Passengers Left Stranded
A video of a train derailment on the Warri-Itakpe route in Kogi state has been released online.
The incident occurred on Sunday, leaving many passengers stranded. Engr. Sanni Abdulganiyu, Coordinator of the Warri-Itakpe Train Service of the Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC), confirmed the news in a statement.
He said that the derailment happened at km 30 Ajaokuta-Itakpe section of the track at around 12:30hrs on Sunday 22nd January 2023. Fortunately, no fatalities or casualties were reported.
Security personnel from the Army, Police, NSCDC, and the community vigilante were immediately sent to the scene with assistance from the Local government Chairman.
All 148 passengers and 30 crew members were safely evacuated. The cause of the derailment is still unknown and the train service along the corridor has been suspended. Repair and operation will resume soon.
