'He does not deserve serious attention': APC PCC Mocks Pastor Bakare as Political Paperweight

The PCC of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has ridiculed Pastor Tunde Bakare, a high-ranking member of the party, by calling him a “political paperweight” who should be disregarded.

Bakare, the Presiding Overseer of the Citadel Global Community Church, competed against Asiwaju Bola Tinubu for the party’s Special Presidential Convention last year.

In his state-of-the-nation address on Sunday, the cleric had suggested that Nigerians should not back those advocating “emilokan,” a term related to Tinubu, which means “my turn” in Yoruba. He also said that a good politician would not dodge public debates and assign his team members to answer questions directed at him.

Chief Femi Fani-Kayode, Director of Special Media Projects/New Media at the PCC, declared that Bakare “got zero votes at the convention.”

The Special Adviser, Media, Communications and Public Affairs at the PCC, Mr Dele Alake, labeled the cleric a “political neophyte” and argued that he had done a video in his church asking his members to vote for Tinubu and then the following day, he did the opposite.

Alake further denied allegations that the PCC operates a militia headed by the National Youth Leader of the Party, Mr Dayo Israel.

In response, Bakare said, “Can someone tell these people that scoring zero in a primary election with one’s true identity and integrity intact as well having original credentials from well-known schools:

Primary, Secondary, colleges and University within and outside of this nation is a veritable badge of honor, absolutely legit and unquestionable? Please tell them that in the words of Michel De Montaigne.”

He went on to state that “there are some defeats more triumphant than victories.” Bakare concluded by citing Voltaire, saying, “Many are destined to reason wrongly, others not to reason at all and some to persecute those who do reason.”
